Many pupils who visit Conisbrough Castle do so in order to complete a specific assignment.  In many cases this involves the use of comparisons between what we know and what was thought in the past or what the castle looked like

Use these photographs as a comparison, you can print them on your printer and bring them with you when you visit the castle.

To download a larger version of each photo simply click on the image, they may take some time to download if you are using a dial-up internet connection.

This image has been supplied by Pete Day and was taken at some time in the 1980s
Castle with Cattle-1904 (Small)1.jpg (82457 bytes)
Another image from Pete Day, this postcard looks like a hand coloured black and white photo of the Castle taken around 1903/04, the quality is poor but the subject is unusual.

 Vulcan XH563.jpg (75204 bytes)
This image is of Avro Vulcan XH563 flying over the Castle in 1969. If anyone can tell us why the bomber is flying so low over the Castle we will be pleased to hear from you. If you wish to see other photos of XH563 possibly on the same mission with information about the aircraft please click here

We would like to thank Carol Narey for supplying this photograph of the ornamental pond that once stood where the Visitor Centre is today.  We are not 100% sure when the photo was taken, but we know that the photographer was active in the Rotherham area at the end of the Nineteenth century.
