What were homes like a long time ago?

If you have visited Conisbrough Castle with your class, then you may have been looking at the castle as a home.

A long time ago when the castle was new, people did not live in the same kind of houses that we do today.

Houses where also built in a different way to the way that houses are built now.

Not everyone lived in a castle, only very important people had castles.  Most people lived in small houses that were usually made from wood and mud and straw.

A castle like the one at Conisbrough would have been the home of someone very important like a lord or baron.  Some castles would have been owned by the king or his children, who where known as princes and princesses.

A lot of people would have worked at a castle like Conisbrough, some of these people would also have lived there.
