What
you can do at Conisbrough Castle?
There
are a number of activities available to education groups visiting Conisbrough
Castle, these are listed below.
-
Verbal
guided tour of the keep -
Duration:
Approximately 45 minutes
This
service is offered to groups of all ages. One of our knowledgeable Castle
Guides will conduct your group around the inside of Conisbrough Castle’s
late twelfth century keep, retelling its history and explaining how the
building was used and by who. We are sure that if your group is studying
any aspect of life in the medieval period, then they will benefit most
from this form of visit.
The
verbal guided tour can also be customised to your exact requirements; you
may instruct your guide prior to your tour, so that your group receives
exactly the type of information that they require to enhance their
studies.

Verbal
guided tour of the bailey
- Duration:
Approximately 45 minutes
From
the sixteenth century onwards, the buildings of the Castle’s inner
bailey have been removed piece by piece to provide materials for the
construction of other buildings in the Conisbrough area. Although this
process has left very little behind for the modern visitor, there are
still enough clues hidden within the walls and foundations to give a clear
picture of the function if not the appearance of the rooms inside the
curtain wall.
For
a small extra charge, one of our Castle Guides can take your group looking
for clues among the ruins of these once important sections of the Castle,
giving you an insight into the lives of the people who once lived and
worked there.

Use
of the visitor centre and small class-room facility
Use
of the visitor centre during an education visit should not be overlooked.
A wide range of historic information, as well as interpretative models of
the Castle are on display inside. There is also provision for limited
class-room activities within the visitor centre, and an area for lunch in
inclement weather.
|
Many
groups who visit the Castle prefer to look around and explore using their
own criteria and resources, this is perfectly acceptable, provided that
the group is adequately supervised, and your time inside the keep is
restricted to 45 minutes per group of 39 persons.

You
may wish to use the Castle as an education resource in a way other than
those outlined above; a location for a film or video; a backdrop for a
dramatic production or even a nice place to go for day out. What ever it
is that your school or college would like to use Conisbrough Castle for,
please contact us and let us help you to make the most of your visit to
the past.
