However, we can hold wedding receptions within the castle grounds.  Whether you are planning a small family affair or a full-on medieval wedding experience, Conisbrough Castle is a wonderfully romantic and atmospheric location.

It should be remembered that Conisbrough Castle is a scheduled historic monument and a tourist attraction, as such there are some restrictions and guidelines in place to protect the castle and its archaeology.

Arrangements can be made to close the castle for wedding receptions on Saturday afternoons.  We will require at least six months notice, preferably twelve months in order to inform English Heritage.

We charge £100 per hour for the reception itself, plus 50% of the total figure to cover time spent by your suppliers in setting up and removing equipment (although there is no fixed time limit allocated to this activity, we ask contractors to be considerate to the needs of the Castle's staff, visitors and our neighbours).

As an example; the charge for a reception lasting six hours would break down as follows:

6 hours at £100 per hour

=  £600

50% setting up / removal charge

=  £300

Total charged by Conisbrough Castle

= £900

At least 50% of the total due is required at least three months before the date of the reception, and any outstanding charges will be invoiced afterwards.  Payment terms on invoices are 30 days.

We do not organise anything for your wedding reception.  We provide the space, staff to advise and supervise use of the site according to our rules, and tours of the site as required (subject to numbers, times requested and consumption of alcohol by guests).  Marquees, catering, security for car parking, music and all entertainment (including licences and insurance) must be arranged elsewhere.

All visitors (guests, contractors etc) must respect the monument and the grounds, they are protected by the law.  All contractors must contact Conisbrough Castle at least six weeks in advance to inform us of their plans and take advice on use of their equipment at the castle.  Security of all equipment and materials left on site before during and after the reception is the responsibility of contractors or those making the booking, and they must be informed of this.  We require that equipment is made safe and that litter and other waist be removed in preparation for the opening of the castle to the public next morning.
